Flipkart Sees Over 20% Of Shopping From Mobile

Flipkart announced last week that it has crossed $1 billion in sales target a year earlier than expected. Today, the country’s leading e-commerce player has revealed that it is receiving more than 20 per cent of its orders from mobile phones.”More than 20 per cent of our orders are coming from mobile at present. And we see a lot of mobile users, who place orders, are from non-metro cities where we see a lot of potential for growth,” company’s Director (Mobile Marketing) Mausam Bhatt told PTI.
One of the main reasons for the increasing m-commerce transaction is due to high penetration of smartphones and affordable handsets. The company had raised had raised $160M in October and $200M in July last year. Flipkart’s apps on Android and iOS also rolled helped it drive the sales on mobile. It had first launched Android app in September and iOS in December last year. Both the app enables users to browse and shop from their smartphones. India is expected to have 155 million mobile internet users by end of this month as per IAMAI.

Bhatt further stated that the company has seen 2.5 million downloads of its mobile app. However, she did not gave the bifurcation of number of downloads on each of the platform. Currently, the e-commerce platform deals in 20 product categories and plans to add furniture, white goods including TV, refrigerators, washing machines  etc. Flipkart has 14 million registered users and one lakh shipments per day to over 150 cities.
