There have also been some UI changes which make it possible for the app to display information in an optimal way across different Android devices. Icons have been updated and the camera screen has also been touched up. All these changes have resulted in Instagram running efficiently on lower spec Android devices as well.

Instagram is now gunning for a global audience. After entrenching itself firmly in the developed world, the company is now looking to make itself as relevant and useful in emerging markets as well. All the optimizations mentioned above will make the app run faster on lower end phones and users will be able to enjoy a smooth experience. Lower app size and efficiency means lower data consumption, something that is important to emerging markets.
